Hey everyone! Hopefully you are all enjoying mountains of Thanksgiving leftovers and reveling in your Black Friday steals! Speaking of Black Friday, you know the imagery that brings up – All the mobs of people trampling over each other…hmm…sounds like a good segue into talking about zombies! So, for the first time we are going to announce a special feature of our book The Zombie Code. We will be including a miniature “Zombie Dictionary,” defining everything from “walking” to “brains,” but in the context of a zombie audience. This is the first section I started working on when the initial planning of this book began. Just for fun, here are a couple sample entries:

aaah / ˈä

interjection

A human utterance used to display weakness

human / ˈhyü-mən

noun

A fast-moving and often annoyingly intelligent biped creature that provides the most satisfying source of cranial nutrition

adjective

Characteristic of a human or having similar inferior qualities or attributes (e.g., “It was very human of him to not suck the brain out of his former friend.”)

undead / ˌən-ˈded

noun

1) The final state of being, as expressed by immortality, lack of emotion, and an insatiable desire for living flesh

2) Any creature that is in an undead state

adjective

Possessing characteristics of an undead

With all the zombie lore out there, you know what angle has completely gone overlooked? Living creatures who might possess some sort of attraction for the undead crowd. I mean, where there’s something new and different, there’s a fetish for someone, right? Introducing Zombique! The world’s first cologne designed to appeal to those muted zombie senses. Call it suicide or call it sensual, it’s bound to sell like hotcakes. Well, at least that’s what we thought when we came up with this mock ad copy:

So we’ve got another zombie magazine mock-up to share with all of you. One thing about zombies is that they’re always on the prowl, rarely staying in the same place for very long. After all, you gotta find fresh meat, right? So if zombies had their own slate of magazine, you’d have to throw in something about travel. Therefore, we present Zombie Nast Traveler!

So some of you out there may be thinking, “Really? Another zombie thing? Isn’t that so trite these days?” Well, the truth is, folks, that zombies are never not cool. Am I right? I mean, here are 5 reasons why I would totally want to be a zombie:

#5:
You never have to brush your teeth

#4:
No awkward pillow talk

#3:
You can now relate so much better to the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz

#2:
That “don’t swim for half an hour after eating” rule? – No longer applies!

#1:
Deteriorating flesh is the new black!

And that’s just a sneak peek at the kind of content that we’re working on in The Zombie Code. Feel free to share your zombie opinions in the comment box below!

What is The Zombie Code?

Hello everyone, and thanks for your interest in the upcoming book The Zombie Code! My name is Mark Raby and I am the author of this fresh and unique take on “zombie lifestyle”. This blog will serve as the official source of updates for the book, and I invite you all to follow along with me throughout the entire publishing process. As I start to write new chapters, as we begin work on the cover art, and even as we begin to track sales numbers, it will all be logged here. At times we will even elicit ideas from you for potential inclusion in the final version of the book.

Of course we will also occasionally just vent and share zombie stories here as well. We want to make following this blog as fun of an experience as you will have reading The Zombie Code when it comes to your local bookstore (the release date will be announced here first!) So set your RSS feeds, place your bookmarks, and clear out that space on your Kindle now for the one, the only, The Zombie Code!

As progress is made in the writing and publishing of the book, you will see a few other names pop up on this blog:

Jim SchuetteMarketing Director, Marion Street Press
It is because of Jim (or Jimmy as his friends call him) that I am even writing this blog post. As co-owner of Marion Street Press, the publisher of The Zombie Code, it is Jimmy’s responsibility to ensure that every book store in the country will one day be stocking this book.

Kel WinterEditorial Director, Marion Street Press
Kel is in charge of making sure that the book is perfectly ready for mass consumption and that everyone’s thirst for prose about brain eating will be perfectly satiated. Should a typo slip through my meticulous hands (which would never happen!), Kel will be there to crush it.

Travis HodgesSocial Networking & Viral Marketing Extraordinaire
Travis’s job will not be done until every Facebook user’s status is “reading The Zombie Code” – any time you see our humble book pop up on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Digg, whatever…it’s because of Travis’s tireless social network outreach

Other people who get hired on for this project (artists, web developers, zombie experts) may also make an appearance. You never know what will be on the table here at the Zombie Code blog!
